Metamark is a leading manufacturer and distributor of self-adhesive sign vinyl, digital print media and other speciality signage materials 


Metamark manufactures and supplies coloured and speciality sign vinyl, digital print media, window etch and tint effect material to an international customer base.  Its products are used by interior and exterior designers, digital printers, window graphic businesses and vehicle wrapping services. It sells directly to its large and fragmented UK customer base, with its service-led proposition especially valued by SMEs.   

The buyout from private vendors was led by Paul French, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Ian Simister, the Sales Director.


The Big Idea

The business operates in an attractive market with positive, sustainable growth drivers.  Metamark is  an established and respected brand with a reputation for high quality material and excellent customer service.  Its unique, vertically integrated UK distribution model of own branded product range has enabled Metamark to win market share consistently from competitors by offering its customers better value-for-money, whilst maintaining market-leading quality and outstanding service levels. 


The Grand Plan

The company’s vertically integrated business model is difficult  to replicate and therefore provides a significant barrier to entry for competitors trying to match  Metamark’s exceptional customer proposition.  Whilst the company already has a leading market share in the UK, there is still plenty of scope for growth in the fragmented UK market.  New initiatives will include launching an e-commerce channel, upgrading marketing and social media capabilities and bringing to market new products targeted at different applications.  Continued international expansion, through trusted distribution partners, will also underpin Metamark’s growth strategy in the coming years.  This will include strengthening its presence in existing overseas markets and entering new territories, possibly including the large US market.  


The Bottom Line

The business has a unique and hard-to-replicate business model which gives it a competitive advantage for better serving its customers. The management team we are backing is experienced and has been responsible for the impressive growth in the business. Our business plan represents a continuation of Metamark’s highly successful strategy, enhanced by further investment in complementary capabilities to accelerate future growth.  Metamark has already made two acquisitions of distributors - Scotmark in September 2017 and Trimwel in May 2018.
